How Afya101 works, what you can expect from us, and how we handle your information.

1. About these terms

These terms govern your use of Afya101, a telehealth platform that connects patients in Kenya with licensed medical consultants for text-based consultations. By creating an account or using the service you agree to them.

If you do not agree with these terms, please do not use Afya101.

2. Afya101 is not emergency care

Afya101 is for non-urgent health questions and guidance. It is not a substitute for in-person care, and it must never be used in an emergency.

If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call your local emergency services or go to the nearest hospital immediately.

3. Your account

You must provide accurate information when registering and keep your login details secure. You are responsible for activity that happens under your account.

You must be old enough to give valid consent for medical guidance under Kenyan law, or be supported by a parent or guardian.

4. Credits and payments

Consultations are paid for with credits. Credits are purchased through our payment provider and are metered per character of the messages you send. Doctor replies do not cost credits.

Pricing is shown before you send a message. Purchased credits are non-transferable. Refunds, where applicable, are handled case by case in line with Kenyan consumer protection law.

5. Consultations and consultants

Consultants on Afya101 are independent licensed professionals. Afya101 verifies their licensing before approval but does not employ them and does not direct the clinical advice they give.

A consultant may decline a request. When that happens no credits are charged for the request itself, and you are free to start a new request with another consultant.

Guidance given in a consultation is informational. Always follow up with in-person care when a consultant recommends it.

6. Your privacy and data

We collect the information you give us and the content of your consultations to provide the service. We protect it with appropriate security measures and handle it in line with the Kenya Data Protection Act.

You can choose to consult anonymously. When you do, the consultant sees you as “Patient” instead of your real name. You can set this as a default in your account and override it per consultation.

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the consultant you are talking to, our payment provider for billing, and where the law requires.

7. Acceptable use

Use Afya101 honestly and respectfully. Do not abuse consultants, misrepresent your identity, or use the service for anything unlawful.

We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms.

8. Availability and changes

We work to keep Afya101 available but cannot guarantee uninterrupted service. We may update these terms; material changes will be communicated in the app.

9. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Afya101 is not liable for clinical outcomes arising from advice given by independent consultants, nor for losses caused by service interruptions outside our reasonable control.
